Aether Chroma is an electronica incarnation of artist Derek Hoffend. Crunchy, glitchy beats simultaneously evoke affections for minimal techno precision and industrial dance-floor infection. Synth layers form deep evolving textures, melodic themes and sequences, and soaring plateaus of drones that blend with ease between synth-pop, ambient, and shoegaze sentiments. Field-recordings make appearances supplementing timbral complexities and moods. After numerous years of live electro-acoustic soundscapes, improvisational collaborations, and sound-sculpture installation-art, this project focuses on deeply gestated rhythmic and melodic sensibilities long awaiting expression in Hoffend's creative output.
